James H. Evans Book Review – Cenizo Journal

The 2nd quarter issue of the Cenizo Journal has been distributed throughout the Trans Pecos of West Texas. Publisher/Editor, Dallas Baxter, had asked me to review the new book, Crazy from the Heat: a Chronicle of Twenty Years in the Big Bend. This is the second book of fabulous photographic images by James H. Evans. The foreword is graced by eloquent, versatile writer, Rebecca Solnit. To prepare for the review, I pulled photographic books out of storage and refreshed my feelings for a few my favorite photographers: Anne Noggle and Rosamond Wolff Purcell. I’ve been in awe of Evans’s work for 20 years, and it was an honor to be immersed in his images. The book will be available May 11, 2011.

Artwalk and Asleep at the Wheel

01 April 2011 – The ‘Honored Artist’ was announced to a large crowd at the Granada Theater after Charles Maxwell and the Ranger Canyon Band opened the evening. No foolin’, I had to get on stage, say a few words and accept the award that was introduced and presented by Marlys Hersey, Alpine Artwalk Board Member. I thanked the many supportive folks, talked about Jean Norsworthy’s influence, and encouraged support of the 80,000 Texas teachers whose jobs are threatened by budget cuts. Then, it was time to dance with my mom and friends to the fabulous Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel. Well, now it’s time to get to work – art work that is…

Here a few pics from my beautiful sister, Robin.
