Art Becomes a Cycling Jersey

I have always wanted to see my fish and cactus theme swimming on fabric, so when a tandem cycling couple suggested that I make one of my images into a jersey…well, that idea hung on for a few years. One day, after finishing a drawing, I asked my friend and graphics wizard, “Can we make this a jersey?” “YES!” was the exuberant response.

Wizards do perform magic. kt had not only laid out the art so it would fit anyone from a small child to a full-grown warrior. She added some magic to give the colors a brightness that would say, “See me! I’m a cyclist!” Ensued was the tweaking and sharing of files with the jersey printers, Primal Wear. Primal has a great, responsive staff, and they produce a quality jersey.

Deadlines were met and, lo and behold, the jersey arrived! What a bundle of color as we pulled the jerseys from the boxes. Funny how things work out…even a cyclist purchased the original drawing. I simply smile when I see those colors on two wheels, carving a trail through the desert.

If you would like to own this ‘wearable art’ jersey, contact Desert Sports at 888-989-6900 or 432-371-2727. Price is $95 plus sales tax. A few sizes are left for women, and a range of sizes are available for youth and men.

Artwalk Exhibit Next Month!

November 18 and 19 Artwalk 2011 is coming soon…at least imminence is felt as I get the pieces ready. My exhibit at TransPecos Bank in Alpine will begin on Tuesday, November 15th and end on November 30th. I recently finished this commissioned piece that will be on display. It was a luscious piece of work with new Unison Color Soft Pastels on Wallis Pastel Paper. This sanded paper allowed me to work in a larger format (36.5″ x 24″) Thanks to both former Artwalk featured artists, Lindy Cook Severns and Deborah Allison for the info on materials as well as their inspiration. The original pastel drawing (image below) I made for Artwalk will be raffled off at $10 a ticket and the monies will go the School Art Fund! Tickets are available through me or at Kiowa Gallery in Alpine. The drawing is matted and framed and looks great! Last week, I delivered this year’s Artwalk check to the Big Bend High School and the 8th graders of the Terlingua Common School District. Spent the time talking to them about Artwalk…the Art Car Parade and chance to see regional art. I also shared my ‘Macro on the Go’ presentation from the Shooting West Texas Photography Symposium. What a fine group of young adults in Terlingua! They were attentive and interacted. One student went home that night, took a close-up of a butterfly and is now entering it in a contest. Yesssss!

Honored Artist Alpine Artwalk 2011

Yeehaw! I have been invited to be the Honored Artist for Artwalk 2011 held in Alpine, Texas in November. Double Yeehaw! What’s up with Artwalk? It’s annual event where artists of the Big Bend come together to show and sell their creations. Ah, and music abounds throughout the streets along with a variety of food tents. It’s a party to celebrate the arts and raise money for local school art programs. Dates are November 18 & 19, 2011. wpid-400dpicrop_web-2011-03-30-15-17.jpg This pastel/pencil drawing, entitled ‘Pescado Despoblado’, was created for Artwalk promotions – postcards, flyers, t-shirts, etc. Is it for sale? The framed original has been donated to a raffle to raise money for local school art programs, so there is a chance of acquiring the original (details in planning stage). You will be able to see an exhibit of my art at TransPecos National Bank (Thank you for the gracious wall space!). It will include paintings, drawings and photographs. I will also have drawings from the ‘Fish No Water’ series at Kiowa Gallery (Thank you, Keri Artz!). I look forward to promoting other artists through this honor. See you in November!
